I've become obsessed with this title since its announcement.

Creator speaking about the game and universe:

I even found the old 2020 books in PDF format and trying to convince some friends to get a game going.

Very nice trailer (and much better than the original music) and I'll likely be pre-ordering this when available.

I'd love to be proven wrong but if their other games have taught me anything this game is still 1.5-2 years out... at best.

Oh, no question it is a year or two out. But what they have in this early build looks pretty damn impressive.

I skipped around the movie but didn't want to watch it in its entirety. It definitely looks amazing.

Nobody tell Anarky, I'm not sure he would survive the 48 min gameplay demo!

This and an other as-of-yet unannounced CDPR RPG are due out "by" 2021. Source.

I believe Cyberpunk, but something they haven't announced yet? I cast doubt!

CPR are as notorious as Blizzard used to be about delaying games until they're polished/finished.

It doesn't necessarily mean it won't be 2019/2020 either for Cyberpunk, but I also have no faith in their hitting expected dates.

Thronebreaker took them years longer than they expected and that's a fucking card game.

April 16th 2020 release announced. I pre-ordered.

Will be interesting to see if CDPR hits their target.

Also the game has Keanu Reeves in it.

/purchased on steam. December 10, 2020 release date this time.

I have an OK rig at the moment, which is a nice coincidence. RTX 2070 still has some kilometres (/grin) in it.

The time. It is almost upon us.

I pre-ordered it (ps4) but probably won't get a chance to play much for a while.

I also grabbed Empire of Sin. I like it alot but I am bias to those types of games.

Played a decent amount (level 10 or so now). Generally disappointed, as the game feels very...rough and buggy.

Not terrible, by any means, just not as good as I hoped. I will play more and see if my opinion changes.

Your initial impressions of AAA games never fails to disappoint :)

But yes, I hear the playstation release is a complete CF. I have another friend who refuses to play it because it wont run on Windows 1607 LTSB (more stubborn than anything... wtf you need a LTSB build on a gaming machine?).

Overall, I've had fun with it. Level 15ish. Playing on hard, which has forced me to do more quick-hacking than anticipated.

Runs decent enough on a RTX 2070. Seems to run just as good at 4K as on 1080p at certain points in the game (i.e. low framerates, almost identical, in large multi-layered city areas with tons of NPCs). Haven't really run into any 'bugs' other than some display issues (someone putting a chip in their head had the chip model replaced with a gun model, for example).

Got it, but the bugs are distracting enough to the point that I'll just wait 6 months to try it again.

Apparently it's been a shit show and Sony pulled the game digitally and offering refunds. Microsoft, Bestbuy also offering refunds.

I assume on PC?

I'm starting to run into some more bugs. Just had to restart the game so I could charge my Tech weapons again, for example (which, btw, are broken).

Still enjoying it, but for a major release, it's a shit show of a launch, heh.

This sort of shit pisses me right the fuck off.

Not on behalf of the consumer inconvenience, but because that dev team almost certainly went through hell to push out a broken game because the upper echelon established an unrealistic timeline. This inevitably leads to stress, anxiety, and depression across all tiers, - extra alcohol and drugs, because they don't have time to use extra sleep to cope with it - and then they're rewarded with a shitstorm of criticism.

Next, some cocksucker exec will start offering severance packages to department heads and leads before restructuring everyone else and claim he fixed the problem with the development (because rarely will they admit that they enforced ridiculously unrealistic timelines). And that way the bullshit exec can look like he's doing something meaningful with his bullshit job, and the people responsible can wash their hands clean of responsibility..

I'm talking about the GM phase. Even if the earlier dev phases took forever, rushing the GM phase is still going to result in a crunch.

But anyway, I came here to mention that the game has sold 13 million across all platforms. That exceeds Animal Crossing's week 1 sales of 11.77 million in March.

Just saying. At some point a publisher has to say release the f'ing game :)

I agree. Although, by the sounds of it, the release should have been Christmas 2021 instead of Christmas 2020.

While the delay would have been unpopular with some, I think they'd have avoided burning most of their customer good will and burning out their dev staff had they made a delay and allowed for healthy work hours.

As the situation currently stands, the board of directors should fall on their swords, resign, and protect the image/reputation of the dev team and under-management. Assuming they're all shareholders, it'd be really stupid of them not to.

I dunno...this game has been in development for 7+ years. I think the creators probably bear more blame than the "execs".

That said, thinking back to the original gameplay footage, I get the impression there was probably a major change in direction at some during the development cycle; and that's probably the source of the eventual clusterfuck.

I think I am level 17 or so. I went blades (sorta fun) and stealth (kinda lame) and crafting (not used much for now). Right now just kinda ignoring the story and doing side missions, so I can cyber up properly.

Whether a game takes 2 years to complete Beta, or 12, if the GM phase is cut short, then the game is going to be full of bugs. If porting was rushed, that’s a problem too.

To explain the dev process a little. Usually games are developed across several stages. Standard practice is preproduction, prototyping, first playable, Alpha, Beta, and Gold Candidate. There are various objectives that need to be complete, Alpha is usually signed off on when all major features are in and no crash bugs. Beta when all content is in with no A-class or B-Class bugs: A-class are things like 100% reproducible crashes with relatively easy steps, memory leaks, etc. B-class are things like 5% chance of crash, irregular bugs that lead to blockers, and that sort of thing,. Gold Candidate, you ideally want all bugs cleared, but sometimes executives will override this phase and release a buggy game - this is usually done by ghetto studios and PC devs (who often have shit standards compared to console and other closed platforms with a QA run required. Whether the Beta takes 1 year to complete, or 10 years, rushing through gold candidate is still going to result in a shitty game - and it’s a foolish process to sacrifice time in gold candidate if Beta went over schedule. If Beta goes over, a delay is necessary.

In the end, the executives would be the ones making the decision to rush the GM phase, not the development team. While devs will often offer estimates, the overall schedule is mandated from the top. It would be the top level that would mandate crunch time to make up for rushing the timelines, and they’d be the ones who signed off on the release of an unfinished product. Crunch time is asking for mistakes to happen, rushing release out before bugs are cleared is simply bad practice. I’m actually surprised Sony and Microsoft QA let the game through if it was so problematic.

Anyway, to use an analogy,

Think of Game development like putting together an album, a band might be allowed 2 years to write an album, and for arguments sake, production is allowed 6 months for mixing and polish. If the band takes 2 and a half years, cutting down the production time from 6 months to 1 month to avoid substantial delay will result in a shitty album because it only got 1/6th the production time.
