He is one of the few people in boxing history to have over 50 KO's, that puts him in a group with the likes of Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey, and Primo Carnera. He was often portrayed as a killing machine in the ring (being responsible for 2 deaths, one of them died in the ring the other after the first punch of his next fight). He is also well known to be the first to really create a persona of that sort (similar to Ali) for the marketing of his fights. Baer was actually quite a nice guy, and had a huge heart, according to those close to him. He's also featured in the recent movie Cinderella Man. His most famous fight was his second against Max Schmeling, who was German and Hitler's favourite fighter. Baer became an extremely popular fighter among Jews. You can see Baer wearing the star of David on his trunks.
