It's amazing I hadn't seen that film until last night. This one kind of disturbed me in the same way that One Hour Photo (Robin Williams) did. It's one of those films whose influence is apparent - the structure is similar to American Beauty where it begins with William Holden's character face down in a pool after being shot three times; then jumping back 6 months to follow the events leading up to the incident. I also watched all of season 7 of Archer without realizing this film was one of the primary inspirations.

The genre is Film Noir/Dark Comedy. IMO, best watched at night.

It's the earliest example I can think of featuring a fucked up dark comedy. Perhaps since the silent era. It's hard to believe that something like that came out of 1950.

I'm going to put this on my list. I've never seen it, and there just isn't much out that I really care to see lately.
