<b> Sorry for the use of caps in my title, but I just wanted to warn others about my recent experience.
About 4 months ago I got a call from a random telemarketer on my cell phone. Meaning the only way they could have gotten that number would be from something I ordered online.
Either way, they started in on their delivery, telling me all about how joining their program would help me to save money on dining, movies and even gas! If I joined they'd even send me $40 in free gas cards.
Not being an idiot I told them I did not want to have anything to do with this and to take me off their list. Upon declining they asked me if I understood what I was declining and I said "Yes".
Unbeknownst to me, I was being recorded. These f'ers took a WAV file of me saying "Yes" and pasted it with someone saying "Mr. *** do you give us the permission to bill your credit card in the amount of $9.99 a month" and of course, followed by this statement was my voice saying "Yes". So by cutting and pasting a statement taken out of context, they were authorized to charge my credit card
So I have been finding random charges for $9.99 on my credit card weekly for the past 3 months from "Critics Choice Entertainment". After calling and raising a HUGE stink, I think I might be off the list *crossing fingers*
As it turns out, I'm not alone in this. They have several other companies that are linked to credit card activation, newly issued Debit cards, etc.
So if someone calls asking to activate your card or offers $40 in gas rebates, just hang up, get the number and the name of the representative and send it to the Consumer Protection Agency.
I hope no one else gets is this mess like I did.
