The Other Worlds Shrine

Your place for discussion about RPGs, gaming, music, movies, anime, computers, sports, and any other stuff we care to talk about...

  • New forum based around reading/books?

  • Somehow, we still tolerate each other. Eventually this will be the only forum left.

I am wondering if I am alone on this one, but one of the topics I do notice discussed a lot (and perhaps would be discussed a great deal more), but doesn't really have a proper section, is reading/story. Sure we have Gamethought which focusses on the discussion of games in general; the industry, what's upcoming, etc... We have the music and movies section to discuss that; I think a lot of us here read at least as much as we watch movies/tv, some of us a great deal more. So what I am wondering is if anyone else feels a new forum for anything related to reading; even perhaps videogame stories (since those posts are relatively rare in gamethought anyway and possess spoilers), history, books, mythology etc...

I mentioned this before, but it was agreed upon at the time that we don't talk abut books enough to justify a new board. It was accepted that Music/Movies would be a general "entertainment" board also including books.

I think that perhaps there would be more discussion with a separate forum available; it wouldn. I would also throw in discussions of history and such, we used to have such topics in Ruminations. Now there is absolutely no place for it. Although I suppose we could throw that in the M&M forum as well.

I am in favour of a new forum though. Mostly because I find topics fall off too quickly in M&M or Daily Stuff.

Wtf are you smoking? Both forums have threads on the first page that haven't been touched in a month. What the HELL is your definition of "fall off too quickly"?? I wouldn't consider anything to fall to the 2nd page too quickly unless it was a still active thread that got pushed there... nothing on the 2nd half of any of our forum pages are active anymore.

If anything 3 is too many

Books are a different nature. It takes people a lot longer to read lord of the rings than to watch it for example. As well, people generally don't read multiple books at once so sometimes it takes a long time to get to the said book in the first place. you don't want to sift through a bunch of stuff on spiderman, batman, and naruto when looking for discussions on readings (well I don't).

This is why I have admined a MB for 10 years, and you haven't.

Or if you want past history of that mistake in action, look no further than the front page.

The reason I haven't admined a MB for 10 years has to do with the fact that I haven't set out to do that. My asking if anyone else would be interested was just asking; I wrote the thread realizing that others may not want a new forum, and it seems to be the case.

It just sounds wastful, and the easiest way to kill a board is to stretch it too thin. If you want to discuss books feel free-- maybe preface every thread with "Book Discussion:" or something like that, thereby making it insanely easy to search for such threads later.

Solution: create a thread and request that it be stickied.
