No, it's in the book.  That's why her father Elrond didn't want them to marry.... He would only allow it under one condition: Aragorn became king of both Gondor and Arnor... which of course he does at the end of RotK... God I'm such a dork.

<div style='font: 12pt Helvetica; text-align: left; '>She's mentioned several times in all of the books, Tolkein didn't reveal the romance between Aragorn and Arwen until late in the trilogy but when he does he tells us that it was taking place all along. I don't see anything wrong with the romance aspect as long as it doesn't overshadow the story like it did in that god-awful piece of crap Pearl Harbor... they're just hoping it'll bring more chicks to the theatres.</div>
